As an immigrant, I was born in the Philippines and raised in Canada. From childhood to adulthood, I often acted as an observer, observing the differences between the two cultures that I had learned, without blaming at all. This is also a key trait of being a UXR.
I also learned from my parents their diligence, their resourcefulness, especially my mother’s leadership, and resilience in the face of extreme ambiguity. This was a key factor in my smooth entry into the industry.
As a woman, I know that being caring and compassionate is my natural strength. I listen to other people’s stories with heart, build rapport, and dig deeper insights.
Doubt, Distrust and Perception
At the beginning, it scared me. I thought, maybe I can just follow the results of the data . As a UXR, you represent the voice of the user (even if not the same as the data). You have to be able to withstand a room full of stressed skeptics and unbelievers.
